I’ve been looking back over my portfolio ads, and realized that I misspelled the word marshmallow in one of them. Also I obviously don’t know where to use commas, and where not to. (in fact I’m probably misusing them in this post.) I guess hind-sight is always 20/20, I can see all the mistakes that I’ve made looking back at my application, but it’s too late to...
What is up with waking up promptly at 6 am every morning, when I don’t have to be at work until 10 am. It’s so annoying not to be able to sleep in. Since I’m awake anyway, I’m trying to figure out what to do with my time. It’s been really warm the past couple of days, maybe I should start taking Patches for a walk every morning.

Reflections and Realizations →
I’ve been looking through my old posts and was about to hit the delete key on about twenty of them… then I thought, this is my journey. All the bad ads, all the poor layouts, and design flaws, even the journal posts about knowing it all, it’s all been part of my journey.
A year ago I knew everything… it’s only now that I am beginning to realize how far I’ve...
Leo Weekly and my latest reality check
As part of my application for the Brandcenter at VCU, there is an assignment to have a 10 minute talk with a stranger. So, I’m sitting on the couch one night thinking,
“What could I do to really impress the admissions counselors at the Brandcenter? Maybe if I could meet with a real Creative Director, a mentor who could point me in the right direction, critique my work, and...

New Year, New Thoughts
When I made my New year’s resolutions, it was the same ones I make every year.
Lose Weight
Get Healthier
Be a Better Person
Then I thought, what if I could find happiness in 2011. What would that feel like. To be content with however the year turns out, and find joy in life’s small blessings.
So here it goes. My resolution this year is to find or create something beautiful...

The Best Advice Yet...
So I read an article in Sixty Magazine today… and it really spoke to me. I loved the portrait, and the sound advice, from Professor Mark Fenske to everyone who didn’t make the cut for acceptance into the Brandcenter this year.
I’m finally beginning to realize that looking for ads in Cosmo is like shopping for high fashion at K-Mart… so I’m getting a subscription to...

What I learned from selling Mary Kay...
My Mary Kay director - Phylis, would preach to us at every monthly meeting that to reach our business goals we must do 3 things everyday to reach that goal. They didn’t have to be big things… just making a phone call to a potential client, or giving someone at the grocery store a business card, but it was set in stone “Do 3 things everyday.”
The Challenge: I want to get...

New Layout, New Start.
I’ve deleted everything stupid, idiotic, and otherwise cheap ploys for attention from my blog, in a hope of one day being taken seriously. The stupid stuff I’ve done is in the past… I hope, and I’m starting fresh, and looking forward.
Things that I’m wondering about:
What Blogs, Websites and Printed publications should I be reading to improve my skills as a...

I love that there is a Q&A section at the bottom that tells the message, goals, theme and significance of their campaign.
loftierambitions asked: what feedback did you get from brandcenter on your application?
Advice from Sally Hogshead
1. There are no right answers, including these. 2. The hipster creative with tattoos and piercings rarely does the coolest ads. 3. Dominos delivers to Starbucks. 4. Smart beats clever. 5. You’ll create a better book by breaking the rules than by following them. 6. Spend more time thinking, less time executing. 7. Don’t write like a copywriter. 8. Start art directing with a pad of paper, not...

The Musuem of Bad Art →
In the keeping of the spirit of my last few posts, I wonder if I could submit my work to the Museum of Bad Art? It’s an actual website, complete with a facebook group and they have two museum locations, and I just wonder if my work is good/bad enough to make it in.
